Jacksonville, FL — A late-inning surge and a dramatic home run by Endy Sanchez propelled the Mayport Cruisers to a thrilling 12-9 victory over the Marietta Bulls on Wednesday. The win came in a back-and-forth contest that saw both teams trading blows throughout the game.
The Cruisers, playing at home, wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, putting up three runs in the bottom of the first inning. But the Bulls responded, and the game remained tight. After a four-run third inning from the Bulls was answered by a three-run rally from the Cruisers in the bottom of the same inning, the score was 5-6 with the Cruisers leading.
After some more scoring in the fourth and fifth, the game was knotted up again at 9-9 in the bottom of the sixth inning. That's when Sanchez stepped up to the plate with two men on base and delivered the biggest hit of the night: a towering three-run home run that broke the tie and gave the Cruisers a 12-9 lead. The runs would prove to be the game-winners as the game ended after six innings due to time-limit.
Cruisers starter Oberto Munoz pitched five solid innings, giving up five runs while keeping his team in the game. On offense, Cayden McGarity was a key contributor, going 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs, and scoring three runs. Luis Batista also crossed the plate three times, and Anthony Guzman added two RBIs and scored two runs himself, contributing to the offensive firepower that ultimately secured the win for the Cruisers.
